Happy New Year everyone!! At the beginning of every year – immediately after Christmas and New Year’s Eve are wrapped up – I start getting excited for the upcoming fashion weeks! And I don’t just mean RTW Fashion Month either…there are so many emerging fashion weeks around the world now that, well, it’s always fashion week somewhere. To that end, I realized that with lots of travel rapidly approaching (more about that soon hehe)…and with lots of super new street style looks to shoot in early twenty twelve…I’d better post any favorites that I’m still sitting on from twenty eleven stat! haha Here then are a few (52 actually) of my favorite unpublished shots from the most recent London Fashion Week…all shot by me in September, 2011. I’m going to do similar posts soon with my favorite “previously un-posted on Mr. Newton” shots from the last round of fashion weeks in New York, Milan, and Paris. It’s like an after-Christmas street style warehouse sale up in here – making room for some new spring items!
Hi everyone – gosh so much cool stuff that I still want to show you guys from Fall 2011…and now here it is, almost time for twenty twelve to pop off! Case in point – back on September 19th, I was deep in the midst of Fashion Month – running all over London shooting street style that day at shows like Erdem and Burberry during London Fashion Week. Back home in the U.S. however, my family and friends were excited to see me that evening on the network news show, ABC News Nightline. I wasn’t able to watch it live of course, as I was out of the country…but I did watch it online a couple of days later in my Milan hotel room…fun times! I’m sure that many of you did not get a chance to see this…and thought that you might get a kick out of it…so I’m posting it here now. I intended to post it when it first aired (I tweeted a link to it)…but during Fashion Month things are so hectic that intentions and actions can sometimes be two different things – hehe! BTW – their crew and a producer tagged along with me for a couple of days while I was shooting at Alexander Wang and other shows…and then a Nightline correspondent interviewed me as I was taking a break after shooting at Rodarte. Who knows, maybe some of you guys will see yourselves in the piece? Anyway check it out – I hope you like it! x
Spotted on Collins Ave. (above) – her vintage Versace leopard-print pants and South Beach, Miami are a pretty perfect match, don’t you think? You can see more looks below…and some party photos and stuff too…all shot on my first night at Art Basel Miami Beach, Nov. 30th 2011.
So I’m back from Miami now – I decided to stick around for a couple of weeks after Art Basel ended. I was doing a shoot down there…and I was also working on a couple of magazine/web deadlines with photos that I’d shot previously…and well, all that aside, it’s just darn hard to get on a plane bound for somewhere wintry when the place where you are currently is 80 degrees and sunny! The Miami apt. that I was renting was available…so I mixed in some pool and spa time at The Standard, some beach time at The Delano, and no small amount of Cuban pork sandwiches from Puerto Sagua in with my end-of-year work wrap-up. Now that my deadlines and pseudo-vacation are finished though, I really want to get all of my Miami photos up here on Mr. Newton ASAP! On this first night, I was chatting with my boy Brainwash…kicking it with thecobrasnake…and watching Soulwax play live (along with 2manydjs) on the beach at The Raleigh at the Jeffrey Deitch/Museum of Contemporary Art, L.A. party. It was a great start to a great weekend – despite the fact that it’s always a bit disorienting to get off a less-than-3-hour flight from chilly NYC and find yourself dancing on a tropical beach! More soon… xo Mr. Newton
Out last night at Mamushka Arts Cafe on NW 36th Street, Miami…we’d had dinner earlier at Joey’s Italian Cafe in Wynwood. As some of you know, I arrived in Miami a week ago – for Art Basel Miami Beach – and I’m sort of dragging my heels about leaving! Can you blame me? Well if you’ve seen what passes for “winter weather” down here (that would be 81 degrees and sunny), you would not blame me. I’ve actually been sitting inside working all day today though – editing loads of Art Basel street style and party pics to show you guys! I’ll be posting Basel photos starting later today/tonight. As for Mamushka’s, I think Kent S. of Chicago, IL did a great job of describing the appeal of the place in his recent Yelp review dated 12.6.11. Over to you, Kent…
“As far as grungy bars go, this place was the ultimate shit show that I was looking for when visiting Miami. I always love a place that still pulls in a massive late night crowd while always, always maintaining a level of filth that keeps the people that I don’t want going there to never return again. I went here every single night that I was in Miami. Some of those nights I remember and some of them I don’t. It served as a common grounds for people who really don’t care about much more than getting drunk and kind of dancing. Some might call it pricey, but those people just don’t know how to plan ahead. Sure, it would be kind of annoying that they ran out of the cheaper beer options every night, but that’s a pretty clever business strategy, especially during Basel. My brand of babes stomped around this place like nobody’s business and that’s all I need to think a bar is great. For those who gave this place 1 star, I’m glad to know that I won’t run into you the next time I’m in Miami.”
In Paris outside the S/S 2012 Balmain show…I saw a young French boy walking past, holding his mother’s hand. He appeared fascinated with the crowd that was exiting the show…and he seemed to be listening in to random conversations and taking it all in…until suddenly, I saw a look of confusion come over his face…and he turned to his mother and asked her (in French of course), “Mom, what’s a hottie?” They stopped walking…and then, with great certainty, she looked her son straight in the eye…and pointed to the girl whose photos you see here…and said, “There son, THERE is a hottie.” He nodded…and smiled knowingly…and they walked on. (OK actually this didn’t happen. But it should have.) x
Hi guys – if you haven’t made it down to the Brooklyn Flea lately (don’t even tell me you’ve never been) – well this weekend is your last chance for some fun outdoor flea shopping and stylish people watching and yummy artisanal food sampling, etc. After this weekend, the Flea moves indoors for the winter season…which is not as much fun. (But then I’m not the sort of person who tends to associate the words “winter” and “fun” a great deal anyway – perhaps I should take up snowboarding or something?) Anyway, I hope to see some of you guys out there this weekend! I spotted these stylish cuties at the Flea last Sunday, 11.13.11. Have a great weekend everyone! xx Mr. Newton
