Hey – so, umm…guess what? I’m in Paris for Fashion Week! Can you believe it?? We’ve had perfectly clear sunny weather all week…which has been great for shooting street fashion…so many photos to show you guys! I’m running out now to the Louis Vuitton show though…so for now, here are all my photos that I shot at the Dior show in the Tuileries…my favorite show to shoot street style at in the world! xxx Mr. Newton

Hi – one of my fave trends so far this fall/winter has to be the short-sleeved coat. I mean let’s be real – it’s a cute fashion item – but not very practical. Guess what though? I like cute fashion items! I like people who aren’t practical! If I wanted to be practical all the time I wouldn’t even live in New York. People from all over the world ride around this city on tour buses and stare at us because we’re all fashionable yet not very practical! I think it’s great. xx Mr. Newton (FYI – I spotted Garance below wearing her fantastic dark camel MaxMara in October in the Tuileries, Paris – the mystery girl on the right was wearing a black poof sleeve by Giambattista Valli last week in Nolita, NYC.)

If you’re in Paris this weekend, you really should hurry over to Bon Marche and check out the Guy Bourdin films exhibit. It closes on the 25th…but since the 25th is a Sunday…when Bon Marche and pretty much everything else in Paris is closed…your last day to catch it is actually tomorrow, the 24th. I had a leisurely wander through when I was in town recently for fashion week. I couldn’t resist snapping these photos you see here. You can watch some (but not all) of these films online, but the presentation at the exhibit makes for a far dreamier and surreal experience. The silent models haunting the films, the music soundtrack, the presentation with multiple projections and mirrored floors – the entire experience left me with a bit of a melancholy feeling. It plays like a home movie flashback montage from the saddest 70’s fashion documentary that never was.

Hi there – I have a few rules that I always follow during Paris Fashion Week - simple things like “only go to the Flore at night” (much better crowd than during the day), “never sit front row if you’ve blagged your way in to a show” (no one ever gets kicked out of the second row), and “never investigate the insides of those places that line the Boulevard de Clichy” (just admire their retro-cool neon signs from the sidewalk). A final and somewhat more personal rule is, “when Marc Jacobs walks out of the Louis Vuitton show, I shoot his photo and then the camera goes in the bag”. The Vuitton show is generally held on the last full day of PFW…and I’m generally burned out and a bit over it by that point…so while there are usually still a handful of shows remaining on the schedule…I hang out to shoot Marc’s photo after the show and then turn into a tourist. After traveling over from NYC or London, racing all over town for 7 or 8 days, shooting a couple thousand photos – this little ritual gives me a sense of satisfaction and relief. This season – after shooting Marc’s photo – I headed straight for the Metro station and went to lunch at the Bon Marche food hall…after eating I went to umm, a fashion photography exhibit. Well, maybe I wasn’t totally burned out on fashion and photography after all! haha Check out my photos from the Louis Vuitton show below.
