Fly Me To The Moon

Up early today and getting some work done at home…already listened to this about 4 times this morning…thought I would share. Super excited for the new Goldfrapp album on Tuesday! I’ve been out of town for much of this year so far but I’m heading out soon to shoot street fashion today in Manhattan for the first time in 2010. I’ll be sharing those shots with you here soon of course. First though I’ve got well over 100 more photos to post from Paris Fashion Week! xx (P.S. – The weather here is insane today and has been for the last few days – 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky – loving it. Went out yesterday evening to Ryan McGinley’s photo opening in Soho which turned into a big downtown NYC street party with people blocking Grand Street on skateboards and bikes and drinking in the street until the cops and fire dept. came – yay SPRING! “Oh oh oh I got a rocket…”)

Cassette Kids – Lying Around [Official Video]

Cassette Kids | MySpace Music Videos

Hi there…you know…I was lying around this morning…listening to some music…and umm, it was really rad music…so I thought you guys might like to know what I’m listening to recently. As some of you know, before I became obsessed with street style photography, I used to DJ fashion shows and parties and stuff. I DJed the official kick-off party for New York Fashion Week…the end-of-the-season party for Saturday Night Live…the opening of a dental school at NYU (hey, it was a paying gig). I still keep my music collection bang up to date…so that I’m ready to DJ at a moment’s notice…I’m not exactly sure why I do this…because it takes a bit of effort…and I don’t DJ very often these days…I think partly it’s just a case of “once a DJ, always a DJ”. I was always the one taking over the music if a friend’s party started to suck…so I was sort of DJing before I was a DJ…and I’m still DJing now…in my mind at least. Everything on this list has recently been in heavy rotation at the Mr. Newton HQ – believe it. There are so many tracks and artists here I’m obsessed with…ugh – just listening to “Dance In The Dark” gets me excited to see Gaga at Radio City later this month! The Sounds remix…the Hazlewood album…the Camera Obscura cover of Abba…Madleen…Annie…Fred Falke – you really should try to find this whole list. Lots of them are available in the US and UK iTunes stores – others can be found by searching here. Oh, and the Ke$ha video? I pretty much just posted that because I thought she looked hot lying around in her hotel bed. xx Mr. Newton

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

These cuties are Au Revoir Simone from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They DJed the Refinery 29/Madewell party last night. Did I mention that “Paris” – by Friendly Fires ft. Au Revoir Simone (Aeroplane remix) is one of Mr. Newton’s tracks of the year for 2009?? That song is amazing – it sounds best turned up loud…

Pale Ontologist

On the street in Williamsburg last weekend…either she’s on point with the nouveau Navajo trend or I’ve been listening to “Thunderbird” by The Golden Filter way too much and am now starting to see things…xx

Sex Jeans and Denim Dreams

I love Uffie and I love this new official video for “Pop The Glock”. Yeah the track has been floating around the internet for almost 4 years (I was still DJing full-time when this came out…the NYC store where I bought the import vinyl 12′ doesn’t even exist anymore) but so what, this track and the new video both rock! I’m sure the Ed Bangers crew decided to make this video now because her first album – called Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans, great title – is finally dropping on February 14th, 2010 aka Valentine’s Day. There are apparently loads of new tracks on the album but for now they are reheating the hype off this, her best known track. I love the girls in this video, the clothes, the slutty-make-out-party vibe of the whole thing. My friend who worked on the vid told me it was shot in West Covina – a suburb of L.A. – but basically it makes me miss the Coachella fest and the house parties that are always so much fun during that weekend. My favorite bit is the very end – the shot of her bum crack and Andre tagging her back – zexxy! xx Mr. Newton
