Those of you who follow me on Twitter will know that last weekend I was in Miami for Art Basel Miami Beach – an annual winter ritual where I pretend to look at art while attending lots of fun dinners and parties. And actually I arrived in Miami a bit early – before Art Basel officially began. And uhh, actually I’m still in Miami…because while “New York, New York is a helluva town”, it’s a helluva lot more fun to wear flip-flops in December than snow boots.

Speaking of arriving in Miami a bit early, these photos were all shot on Wednesday DEC 5th…as I made my way from the Valentino and Interview magazine party on the roof of chic boutique The Webster…on to the somewhat-less-chic-but-no-less-amazing Mac’s Club Deuce…then across the street to the wonderful La Sandwicherie for a mid-evening snack…then later across the dunes at Soho Beach House for Chanel’s awesome BBQ in a tent on the beach…before finally ending up at the Paris-under-the-palms South Beach pop-up of French hotspot, Le Baron. Out and about in Miami last month during Art Basel Miami Beach…these photos were all shot on my second night at Art Basel, Thursday Dec. 1st. I started the night off by driving off South Beach with some friends and heading to the Design District for the OHWOW group show opening…then later it was back to the beach (literally and figuratively) for Interview magazine’s party at The Standard featuring a screening of the previously-unseen-anywhere Warhol beach movie, San Diego Surf. Of course I brought my camera along and shot some photos too – check ’em out! xo Mr. Newton

So I’m back from Miami now – I decided to stick around for a couple of weeks after Art Basel ended. I was doing a shoot down there…and I was also working on a couple of magazine/web deadlines with photos that I’d shot previously…and well, all that aside, it’s just darn hard to get on a plane bound for somewhere wintry when the place where you are currently is 80 degrees and sunny! The Miami apt. that I was renting was available…so I mixed in some pool and spa time at The Standard, some beach time at The Delano, and no small amount of Cuban pork sandwiches from Puerto Sagua in with my end-of-year work wrap-up. Now that my deadlines and pseudo-vacation are finished though, I really want to get all of my Miami photos up here on Mr. Newton ASAP! On this first night, I was chatting with my boy Brainwash…kicking it with thecobrasnake…and watching Soulwax play live (along with 2manydjs) on the beach at The Raleigh at the Jeffrey Deitch/Museum of Contemporary Art, L.A. party. It was a great start to a great weekend – despite the fact that it’s always a bit disorienting to get off a less-than-3-hour flight from chilly NYC and find yourself dancing on a tropical beach!
