Cassette Kids – Lying Around [Official Video]

Hi there…you know…I was lying around this morning…listening to some music…and umm, it was really rad music…so I thought you guys might like to know what I’m listening to recently. As some of you know, before I became obsessed with street style photography, I used to DJ fashion shows and parties and stuff. I DJed the official kick-off party for New York Fashion Week…the end-of-the-season party for Saturday Night Live…the opening of a dental school at NYU (hey, it was a paying gig). I still keep my music collection bang up to date…so that I’m ready to DJ at a moment’s notice…I’m not exactly sure why I do this…because it takes a bit of effort…and I don’t DJ very often these days…I think partly it’s just a case of “once a DJ, always a DJ”. I was always the one taking over the music if a friend’s party started to suck…so I was sort of DJing before I was a DJ…and I’m still DJing now…in my mind at least. Everything on this list has recently been in heavy rotation at the Mr. Newton HQ – believe it. There are so many tracks and artists here I’m obsessed with…ugh – just listening to “Dance In The Dark” gets me excited to see Gaga at Radio City later this month! The Sounds remix…the Hazlewood album…the Camera Obscura cover of Abba…Madleen…Annie…Fred Falke – you really should try to find this whole list. Lots of them are available in the US and UK iTunes stores – others can be found by searching here. Oh, and the Ke$ha video? I pretty much just posted that because I thought she looked hot lying around in her hotel bed. xx Mr. Newton
Sometimes when shooting street fashion I remind myself to look up…to forget about all the street level action and take a look around…there’s another world up there, above the city. A photo from a recent morning before many people were out and about…Our Lady Of Pompei church, on the corner of Bleecker and Carmine.
Hey – how’s it going? There’s been a bit of talk on Mr. Newton lately…some of it a little heated (no pun intended)…on how best to look cute while staying warm this winter. I can’t think of a better solution to this dilemma than the sweater coat. I mean just look at her below…spotted recently on the street in Soho. Seriously. Look at her. This is comfy chic personified. I would literally give her a “10″ on the downtown boho chic scale…and at least a “9″ on the comfort scale. On the coldest days of course you would still need to throw some sort of heavier coat over the top of this…but she’s nailed the perfect mix of sexy and cozy for kicking around the office/dorm/bar/cafe. She can come sit by my fire any day. xx
Hey – check it out – more of my street fashion snaps from NYC – from fall 2009 and early winter 2010…xx
Thin ripped tights and short skirts…spotted in Noho on a recent frigid and windy day. I absolutely love ripped and slashed tights whatever the weather – but I saw these two get a few “wow, those girls must be crazy” stares. Honestly though, I really respect anyone who can remain on mission fashion-wise no matter what the weather may dictate. What do you guys think? Do you keep rocking your Elizabeth and James corset cami and cropped biker jacket in sub-freezing temps? Or do you turn into your Mom and break out the full-length down coat at the first sign of frost?
In Paris with Hanneli outside the Balmain show and then later in the Tuileries. Is it wrong for one style blogger to have a crush on another one? xx
Hi there – ahh…the first Monday after the holidays…always seems a little strange doesn’t it? Parties…family…travel…Christmas…New Year’s Eve…shopping…old friends…huge meals…catching up on repeat episodes of Jersey Shore…and now – back to normal. I have to say, I’m always happy when things return to normal – so that I can resume living my life the opposite of mainstream society. (That is, when most people go out I stay in…and vice versa.) New York just works better following an opposite schedule – if you live in a big city (and likely even if you don’t), I’m sure you know what I mean. The holidays get my opposite schedule all out of whack…and that’s wack. I like to wander downtown when it’s mostly deserted…early or mid-week…when the weekenders are inside and the artists, models, locals, hipsters, and lunatics retake the city…when cuties like Chelsea roam the streets in acid-mustard cardigans, rebuffing the monochromatic cityscape.
